Day 9: Lens Based Media - Reviewing our Storyboards

Today we had to review our photo story we took for homework and try and add/edit things to make the story stronger. To improve my story I added a fly to tempt the frog into leaping on the bath ledge as a 'exciting incident'. And added a scene illustrating the little turtle and frog having trouble getting down from the bath ledge as another struggle in the story.

After we finished editing our story we then had to form a group of six and show our story and give feedback to each other. The feedback the group gave to my story was;
  • to make the fly into an unlikely hero and ends up saving the little turtle and frog
  • incorporate the bath plug cord into helping save the little turtle and frog

I thought the groups suggestions were helpful and opinions helped me see glitches that weren't so clear from my perspective.

After the group discussion we had to choose and present one of our stories to the whole class. In the end we chose Leah's story.

Good stories contain:
  • connect to the story
  • story has a moral
  • give objects characteristics - without obvious facial features
  • give hints e.g. red coloring in each scene to foreshadow a death at the end of the story
  • ending a story with a death is obvious as we all die
  • use metaphors
  • use cliffhangers
Personally I thought today's the lesson was a bit irrelevant as I thought the task we had to complete could have been done in the first third of the class and the task didn't have to be dragged out. I think if we had a new task to do it would have been a bit more interesting and I would have thought I had learnt something new.
